Ingredients

Directions
Step 1
Heat oil in large saucepan over medium heat. Add onion and cook until it starts to soften, 3 to 4 min. Add garlic and cook 1 to 2 min., until golden. Add red wine, if using, and cook 1 to 2 min. until almost all the wine has cooked off. Stir in tomatoes, salt and pepper. Bring just to a boil over high heat then reduce heat to low. Simmer 40 min., until sauce thickens, stirring occasionally and breaking up tomatoes. Stir in basil just before serving.
