CONTEST RULES
TEAMMATE GROCERY GIVEAWAYS CONTEST 2025
(the “Contest”)
1. Eligibility
The Contest is organized by Sobeys Capital Incorporated (the “Sponsor”), administered by XMC Experiential Marketing (the “Administrator”), and is open only to backstage employees and both corporate and franchisee store teammates across all provinces of Canada excluding Québec (the “Participating Provinces”) who have a valid Scene+ account and registered their Scene+ number in the People Portal, have downloaded, created and/or have an account on the Sobeys, Foodland, FreshCo, or Safeway mobile app with their Scene+ account registered to their profile, and who have reached the minimum legal working age in their province of residence on the date that they entered the Contest. Void where prohibited by law.
2. Contest Period
The Contest runs from March 27, 2025 and ends on April 30, 2025 (the “Contest Period) and contains five (5) weekly challenge periods (each a “Weekly Challenge Period”):
3. How to Enter without Purchase – Entry Requirements
NO PURCHASE IS NECESSARY. To enter the Contest without a purchase, you must enroll in the Sobeys, Foodland, FreshCo, and/or Safeway mobile app (collectively referred to as the “Apps”), link your Scene+ account number to your profile, and complete the entry form (the “Entry Form”) in the “How to Play” section of the Apps by checking off the boxes and agreeing to the Contest rules. Upon enrollment, successful linking, and completion of the Entry Form each user (each a “User”) will receive ten (10) enrollment Chips (an “Enrollment Chip”) into the Contest. Each User will receive ten (10) Enrollment Chips for each App downloaded and account signed in, for a total of up to forty (40) Enrollment Chips.
If you are an existing User who would like to enter and have already linked your Scene+ account number to your profile on any of the Apps, you will automatically receive ten (10) Enrollment Chips when signing into your account and after completing the Entry Form.
The Contest can be found on the home page of the Apps.
Once an account has been created and Scene+ account linked or if the User already has an account with a linked Scene+ account number, Users will find challenge tiles within the Apps and be prompted to complete these challenges (each a “Challenge”) during the Contest Period within each Weekly Challenge Period for a chance to earn additional chips into the Contest. The list below explains how to complete each Challenge and the number of chips Users can earn. Users can choose which prizes (as defined in Section 4 below) they want to allocate their chips towards.
The available non-purchase Challenges include:
- Open any of the Apps during each Weekly Challenge Period: To complete this Challenge, each User must open one of the Apps at least once in each Weekly Challenge Period to earn two (2) app Chips (an “App Chip”). Users can earn up to eight (8) App Chips in each Weekly Challenge Period by opening each App listed above once per Weekly Challenge Period for a total of up to forty (40) App Chips during the entire Contest Period.
- Click the "Offer" tab within the App to view available offers: Each User that clicks on the “Offer” tab within the Apps to view the offers available to them, will earn three (3) offer chips (an “Offer Chip”). Users can earn up to twelve (12) Offer Chips by clicking the “Offer” tab within each individual App, once per Weekly Challenge Period for a total of up to sixty (60) Offer Chips during the entire Contest Period.
- Create a Shopping List within the Apps: To complete this Challenge, Users must create one shopping list within any of the Apps in order to earn five (5) shopping list chips (a “Shopping List Chip”). Users can earn an additional five (5) Shopping List Chips if they create a shopping list within each of the Apps. For example, if you create one shopping list in each of the Apps, Users will earn a total of twenty (20) Shopping List Chips in one Weekly Challenge Period. Users can earn up to one hundred (100) Shopping List Chips by creating a shopping list within each App during each Weekly Challenge Period during the entire Contest Period.
- View a recipe and answer the multiple-choice questions: To complete this Challenge, Users must click on the Recipes Challenge tile within one of the Apps, review the recipe, and answer the five (5) prompted multiple choice questions about the recipe. Users will earn five (5) recipe chips just for answering the questions and completing this Challenge (a “Recipe Chip”). Users will earn one (1) additional Recipe Chip for each correctly answered multiple choice question. This Challenge can only be completed using the Sobeys, Foodland, and/or Safeway app. Users can complete this Challenge using the three Apps mentioned above, in each Weekly Challenge Period to earn up to one hundred and fifty (150) Recipe Chips during the entire Contest Period.
- Tap the "Share" button on a recipe within the App: To complete this Challenge, Users must click on the “Share” button found on any recipe within the Sobeys, Foodland, and/or Safeway app and share the recipe using the “share” function on the Apps. Once completed, Users will earn two (2) share chips (a “Share Chip”). Users can earn up to thirty (30) Share Chips by completing this Challenge within all three of the Apps mentioned above, once during each Weekly Challenge Period during the entire Contest Period.
- General Trivia Questions: To complete this Challenge, Users must click on the Trivia Question Challenge tile within any of the Apps and answer the five (5) prompted multiple choice questions. Users will earn five (5) trivia chips just for answering the questions and completing this Challenge (a “Trivia Chip” and together with the Enrollment Chips, App Chips, Offer Chips, Shopping List Chips, Recipe Chips, and Share Chips, the “No Purchase Chips”). Users will earn one (1) additional Trivia Chip for each correctly answered multiple choice question. Users can earn up to five hundred and sixty (560) Trivia Chips by completing this Challenge in all of the Apps, during each Weekly Challenge Period during the entire Contest Period.
By participating in this Contest and completing each of the Challenges, you agree to have read and will abide by the Contest Rules, the entry requirements, and privacy policy.
Limit of nine hundred and ninety (990) No Purchase Chips per User, during the entire Contest Period. For all unallocated No Purchase Chips earned throughout the Contest Period, each User will have up until May 7, 2025 to allocate their No Purchase Chips towards a chance to win their desired prize. Users can allot any number of Chips (as defined below) into any of the available prizes. Once the Chips have been submitted, they cannot be withdrawn.
No Purchase Chips will bear the same odds of winning as Purchase Chips.
4. How to Enter with Purchase – Entry Requirements
To enter the Contest with a purchase, each User must complete the Challenges listed below:
- Redeem any offer in-store: This Challenge can only be completed using any two of the four Apps listed above. Users who redeem any offer found in the “Offer” tab within only two of the Apps, in-store, will earn five (5) redeem chips (a “Redeem Chip”) for each offer redeemed. For this Challenge, Users can redeem multiple offers from two of the Apps at once in a single or multiple transaction during each Weekly Challenge Period to earn up to three hundred (300) Redeem Chips. Users can earn up to a total of one thousand five hundred (1500) Redeem Chips by completing this Challenge using only two of the Apps, during each Weekly Challenge Period during the entire Contest Period.
- Redeem any "Basket Builder" offers in-store: This Challenge can only be completed using any two of the four Apps listed above. There can be up to two “Basket Builder” offers available in each Weekly Challenge Period. Users who redeem the “Basket Builder” offers in-store, will earn ten (10) basket builder Chips (a “Basket Builder Chip”) for each “Basket Builder” offer redeemed for a total of twenty (20) Basket Builder Chips if both “Basket Builder” offers are redeemed in a single Weekly Challenge Period. When Users redeem a “Basket Builder” offer, it will trigger Challenge number 1 above and Users will receive an additional five (5) Basket Builder Chips for each “Basket Builder” offer redeemed. By completing this Challenge using two of the Apps, Users can earn up to sixty (60) Basket Builder Chips in each Weekly Challenge Period. Users can earn up to a total of three hundred (300) Basket Builder Chips by completing this Challenge once, in each Weekly Challenge Period using two of the Apps during the entire Contest Period.
- Redeem any "Digital Exclusive Product" offers in-store: This Challenge can only be completed using any two of the four Apps listed above. There can be up to two “Digital Exclusive Product” offers available in each Weekly Challenge Period. Users who redeem any “Digital Exclusive Product” offer in-store, will earn ten (10) digital chips (a “Digital Chip”) for each offer redeemed for a total of twenty (20) Digital Chips if both “Digital Exclusive Product” offers are redeemed in a single Weekly Challenge Period. When Users redeem a “Digital Exclusive Product” offer, it will trigger Challenge number 1 above and Users will earn an additional five (5) Digital Chips for each offer redeemed. For this Challenge, Users can redeem multiple “Digital Exclusive Product” offers at once in a single or multiple transaction during each Weekly Challenge Period. By completing this Challenge using two of the Apps, Users can earn up to sixty (60) Digital Chips in each Weekly Challenge Period. Users can earn up to a total of three hundred (300) Digital Chips if Users redeem these “Digital Exclusive Product” offers using two Apps in each Weekly Challenge Period during the entire Contest Period.
- Redeem any "Multi Redemption Vendor Product" offers in-store: This Challenge can be completed only once and is available in each of the Apps mentioned above. There will only be one “Multi Redemption Vendor Product” offer available in each App, during all five Weekly Challenge Periods. Each "Multi Redemption Vendor Product" offer has a limit of two (2) redemptions. In order for Users to receive the full amount of chips for this Challenge, Users must redeem the “Multi Redemption Vendor Product” offer in-store twice, to earn ten (10) multi redemption Chips (a “Multi Redemption Chip”) for a total of forty (40) Multi Redemption Chips if redeemed using all four of the Apps. Each time a User redeems a “Multi Redemption Vendor Product” offer, it will trigger Challenge number 1 above and Users will earn an additional five (5) Multi Redemption Chips. Users can earn up to a total of sixty (60) Multi Redemption Chips if redeemed correctly using all four Apps during the entire Contest Period.
- Complete a set number of the above Challenges within each Weekly Challenge Period: This Challenge can only be completed using one of the Apps listed above. In each Weekly Challenge Period, Users can earn Chips by completing a set number of Challenges (a “Challenge Chip” and together with the Redeem Chips, Basket Builder Chips, Digital Chips, and Multi Redemption Chips, the “Purchase Chips”). All Challenges will be available at all times for Users to complete this Challenge. If Users complete and redeem any of the purchase option Challenges, Users will receive those Chips in addition to the stated number of Chips Users can earn, indicated in the third column of the table below. Users can complete any of the Challenges listed in these Contest Rules to complete this Challenge:
Users can earn up to a total of seventy-five (75) Challenge Chips by completing this Challenge in each Weekly Challenge Period. For clarity, Users must complete the set number of Challenges in each Weekly Challenge Period for this Challenge in order to earn the full amount of Challenge Chips. Users will not receive a lesser number of Chips (as defined below) if they complete less than the number of Challenges required to complete in each Weekly Challenge Period indicated in the second column of the table above. Users can earn up to a total of three hundred (300) Challenge Chips for completing this Challenge correctly in each Weekly Challenge Period during the entire Contest Period.
By participating in this Contest and completing each of the Challenges, you agree to have read and will abide by the Contest Rules, the entry requirements, and Privacy Policy.
Limit of two thousand four hundred and thirty (2430) Purchase Chips per User, during the entire Contest Period. For all unallocated Purchase Chips earned throughout the Contest Period, each User will have up until May 7, 2025 to allocate their Purchase Chips towards a chance to win their desired prize. Users can allot any number of Chips into any of the available prizes. Once the Chips have been submitted, they cannot be withdrawn.
Purchase Chips and No Purchase Chips will hereinafter be collectively referred to as “Chips”.
During the entire Contest Period, there will be a limit of three thousand two hundred and ten (3210) total Chips available to be earned per User.
5. Grand Prize Description
There is one (1) grand prize to be won throughout the entire Contest Period. The grand prize consists of 1,000,000 Scene+ points (the “Grand Prize”). The approximate retail value of the Grand Prize is $10,000.00 (CAD).
6. Secondary Prize Description
There are four (4) secondary prizes to be won throughout the entire Contest Period. Each secondary prize consists of 500,000 Scene+ points (each a “Secondary Prize” and together with the Grand Prize, the “Prizes”). The approximate retail value of each Secondary Prize is $5,000.00 (CAD).
The following conditions apply to the Prizes:
- The Prizes have no equivalent cash value, are non-transferable and no substitutions will be made. Prize must be accepted as awarded. The Sponsor reserves the right to substitute any Prize for one of equal or greater value for any reason. You are responsible for all costs not expressly described as being included as part of the Prize, such as any fee associated with the receipt and/or use of the Prize.
- You, or in the case of minors your Parent or Legal Guardian, must sign the Sponsor’s release form (the “Release”) in order to receive and participate in the Prize.
- Scene+ points are subject to standard Scene+ Terms and Conditions.
- Any difference between approximate retail value and the actual value of the Prizes as taken will not be awarded.
7. Odds
The odds of winning a Prize depends on the total number of eligible Chips submitted to each available Prize during the entire Contest Period.
8. Draw Details
Random draws will be conducted by an agent of the Administrator located in Toronto Ontario, Canada, from all eligible Chips received during the Contest Period (the “Draws”). The Draws will occur on May 22, 2025. You do not need to be in attendance to be selected. You are only eligible to win a Prize onc
9. Winner Contact Details
If you are chosen to be eligible to win a Prize, you will be contacted within fourteen (14) business days of the Draw at the telephone number, email address or using the contact information found within the Apps. If you have not provided a telephone number or email address, you are not eligible to win the Prize. By participating in this Contest, you consent to the Sponsor/Administrator or a representative of the Sponsor/Administrator using your Scene+ number to identify you should you be selected as the potential winner. In order to be declared a winner, you must correctly answer without assistance a mathematical skill-testing question and sign a Release. Upon verification of the completion and correctness of the answer to the skill-testing question, and execution of the Release, you may be declared a winner. In case of a dispute concerning the identity of the individual who submitted any Chips, the entrant will be deemed to be the account holder of the email address under which the Chips were submitted.
10. Forfeit of Prize
If you cannot be reached within seven (7) days of our first attempt to contact you, do not answer the skill-testing question correctly, do not claim your Prize within seven (7) days, or otherwise fail to comply with these Contest Rules, then the Prize will be forfeited, and another entrant will be randomly selected from among the remaining eligible Chips as per these Contest Rules. This process of selecting a Prize winner will be repeated until all Prizes eligible to be won have been awarded.
11. Use of Personal Information
By entering the Contest and voluntarily providing your personal information as described in these Contest Rules, you agree to the collection, use and disclosure by the Administrator, and its respective employees and/or authorized agents, of your personal information, for the purpose of administering the Contest, including—but not limited to—contacting you with respect to the Contest if you are a selected entrant. Personally-identifiable information will only be used to administer the Contest and for no other purpose, except as specifically outlined in these Contest Rules. Personally-identifiable information will not be sold, shared or disclosed by the Administrator to any third party, other than to a third party engaged by the Administrator for the purpose of administering the Contest, or if required by law with the exception that aggregated information may be used by or shared amongst the Administrator and its subsidiaries and affiliates, or shared by the Administrator with third parties in accordance with our Privacy Commitment available at https://www.sobeys.com/en/privacy-policy.
12. Publicity Consent
By entering the Contest, you agree that if you are determined to be a winner, the Administrator and the Sponsor may use your name, comments, voice, likeness, municipality of residence, your Contest submission and photo submission and picture in any advertising, promotion or publicity carried out now or in the future, in any media without compensation or notice, and you grant to the Administrator and the Sponsor any and all rights to such use. You agree to cooperate with the Administrator and the Sponsor in arranging for photographs or other forms of publicity and to be available for photographs or other forms of publicity on reasonable notice.
13. Limitation of Liability / Release
By participating in the Contest, and as a condition of acceptance of the Prize, you, your heirs, executors, administrators, successors and assigns, release and forever discharge and hold harmless the Sponsor, the Administrator, and each of their respective direct and indirect parent companies, affiliates, subsidiaries, successors, assigns, agents, advisors, franchisees, shareholders, partners, representatives, their advertising, promotion and fulfillment agencies and each of their respective employees, officers, directors, agents and representatives (collectively, the “Released Parties”), from and against any and all losses, damages (including, without limitation, direct, indirect, incidental, consequential or punitive damages), rights, claims, actions, causes of action, personal injury, property damage or death, including without limitation all costs and liabilities of any kind including legal fees on a substantial indemnity scale, hereinafter called “Claims” and including without limitation any claims arising from any act of negligence of the Released Parties, that you now have, or may hereafter have against the Released Parties directly or indirectly resulting or arising from: (i) participation in the Contest, your Chips and/or the awarding, acceptance, possession, use, or misuse or enjoyment of any Prize, and where applicable, traveling to, preparing for, or participating in, any Contest-related or Prize-related event or activity; or (ii) the publicity rights granted to the Sponsor and the Administrator. You specifically acknowledge that you understand that there may be serious risks of bodily injury, death, or property damage associated with the acceptance, possession, use and/or misuse of the Prize and attendance at any event or participation in certain Prize-related activities, and you voluntarily assume these risks. You also agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless the Released Parties from any and all Claims in respect of the foregoing.
14. Compliance with Rules
By entering the Contest, you agree to abide by the entire Contest Rules and the terms and conditions under which the Prizes are awarded. Any decision made by the Sponsor and/or the Administrator in respect of this Contest shall be final.
15. Technical Issues
The Sponsor and Administrator are not responsible for any computer, online, telephone, hardware, software or technical limitations or malfunctions that may occur (including but not limited to malfunctions that may affect the transmission or non-transmission of any Chips, or failure to receive any Chips), nor for any incorrect or inaccurate information, whether caused by website users or by any of the equipment or programming associated with or utilized in the Contest or by any technical or human error which may occur in the processing of Chips in the Contest, nor for any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission or receipt of any Chips, communications line failure, theft or destruction or unauthorized access to, or alteration of Chips; and, are not responsible for any problems, failures or technical malfunction of any telephone or network lines, computer online systems, servers, providers, computer equipment, software, email, players, or browsers, on account of technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet, at any website or on account of any combination of the foregoing; and are not responsible for any injury or damage to entrants or to any computer-related injury or damage resulting from participating in downloading materials in this Contest.
In the event that, due to a printing, manufacturing, mechanical or other error of any kind or nature whatsoever, more Prizes are claimed than are intended to be awarded according to these Contest Rules, Prizes will stop being awarded when the Administrator becomes aware of an error respecting the number of Prizes and the Administrator reserves the right, in their sole and absolute discretion, to conduct a random draw from amongst all eligible and approved Prize claimants whose claims have not yet been redeemed to award the remaining number of advertised Prizes. In no event will the Sponsor or Administrator be liable for more than the stated number of Prizes contained in these Contest Rules.
16. Rights to Terminate/Modify/Suspend Contest
The Administrator and Sponsor retain the right, in their absolute discretion, to suspend, modify or terminate any aspect of the Contest (including, but not limited to these Contest Rules) at any time. The Administrator and Sponsor may make substitutions of equivalent kind or value in the event of the unavailability of a Prize (or component thereof) for any reason whatsoever. The Administrator and Sponsor may terminate or withdraw this Contest at any time by posting a notice on their website. If the Contest is terminated on any day prior to the normal Contest end date (the “Termination Date”), the Administrator and Sponsor may determine the winners from all eligible Chips received as of 12:00pm on the Termination Date (which winners shall be randomly selected in accordance with these Contest Rules).
17. General Disqualification
Any attempt made by an entrant or other individual or entity, to deliberately damage, manipulate or undermine the legitimate operation of the Contest, including but not limited to any fraudulent claims, is a violation of the law. The Administrator and Sponsor reserve the right to seek remedies and damages from any such individual or entity which makes any such attempt. Any entrant who, in the opinion of the Administrator, is determined to be engaging in any of the foregoing activities will be immediately disqualified from the Contest.
18. The Contest Rules Prevail
In the event of any discrepancy or inconsistency between the terms and conditions of these English Rules and disclosures or other statements contained in any Contest-related materials, including, but not limited to, point of sale, television, print or online advertising and/or any instructions or interpretations of these Rules given by any representative of the Sponsor, the terms and conditions of these English Rules shall prevail, govern, and control to the fullest extent permitted by law.
19. Role of Parties
Sobeys Capital Incorporated is the Sponsor and XMC Experiential Marketing is the Administrator of this Contest.
20. Trademarks
All other trademarks are the property of their respective owners.
21. Jurisdiction
The Contest is governed by the laws of Ontario and the laws of Canada applicable therein, and is subject to all applicable federal, provincial and municipal laws and regulations and is void where prohibited by law. Participation constitutes your full and unconditional agreement to these Contest Rules and the decisions of the Sponsor and Administrator, which are final and binding in all matters related to the Contest. By entering the Contest, you agree that the courts of Ontario, Canada shall have jurisdiction to entertain any action or other legal proceedings based on any provision of this Contest’s Rules or the running of this Contest.
